The penthouse of a Rocco Associados project, a building in the Itaim neghborhood of Sao Paola, Brazil and identifed by a huge Campana brothers sculpture in the central atrum of the building, was redesigned by Studio Guilherme Torres. The client, a young bachelor, wished to have a space where he could relax and entertain his friends.

The project began by totally demolishing the interior walls, floors and stairwells of the duplex and reconstructing them in polymer cement. The central space of the apartment, the living area, was then fully lined with hand-crafted bookshelves of Canadian Oak. In this way, spaces were provided, not only for books, but also for collections, electronic devices and even a work area. A concrete table separates the living area from the kitchen and the starkness is softened by a cream wool carpet and the addition of Sergio Rodrigues and Vitra’s Slow chairs. The client chose his own pool table but the designer chose the startling blue which adds color to a masculine color pallete.

The upper level contains a home theatre and bedroom with wooden floors. The simple lines of the interior, embellished by touches of abstract art and vintage posters, bring to mind the era of the 70s. The result is a warm welcoming home perfect for a young bachelor or indeed a young family.
