This stunning design project for the conversion of a former garage space adjoining the Place de Arts in Montreal into a multi-purpose entertainment venue, was undertaken by the practice of Sid Lee Architecture in collaboration with Aedificia.
The newly created space which functions as a cafe during the day right through to a pre or post theatre rendezvous at night, and when required it may be transformed into a sophisticated venue, worthy of staging the grandest of red carpet events.
Unique design features include the sensuously curving bar, which represents a visual interpretation of an actual sound wave, ‘a hymn to art’ as it is described by the designers. The eye catching ceiling is an undulating 3D sculpture of folded white metal interspersed with strips of colorful LED lights. Red is the dominant color used throughout, an exciting hue which helps to prolong the post-concert buzz within the space. The furniture configurations are endless, offering a total flexibility of the Salon Urbain, as a space for any occasion.
