The Space Program is a design incentive in the form of an installation at the New Majestic Hotel in Singapore. The brainchild of the Foreign Policy Design Group, the site specific intervention is a series of display surfaces created from 200 washboards which represent the hardships of the nation and its people throughout history. On the stands are placed locally sourced objects which the designers consider to be a true representation of the contemporary pop culture scene in Singapore. It is intended as an informative alternative for the visitor to Singapore who may purchase the objects on display although as such it cannot be termed as a pop-up shop.

The Space Program is funded by the hotel and will remain in situ as long as the establishment thinks fit. The designers would like to see similar projects set up in different global locations as an introduction to a new appreciation of space as a forum for the meeting of cultural, artistic and intellectual themes related to the region.
