STOLARNIA is a concept design, the sixth of a twelve piece collection of interiors entitled ‘XII’ by Karina Wiciak of Wamhouse. The name which means ‘Carpenter’s Shop’ in Polish refers to the inspiration of the piece, the Bory Tucholskie National Park, a forested area which the designer considers to represent the ultimate expression of carpentry.

Myriad organic elements of the forest can be discerned within the interior, pine timber is used throughout, the undulating floors mirror the strength and weakness of the plants in the undergrowth. The introduction of pylons within the design is a comment on the changing face of the rural landscape, an element which we have come to accept in the name of progress.

The ‘XII’ collection of interiors combines art with design and architecture with scenography, intended for commercial or public spaces, each design contains the inherent aspect of adaptability to a variety of spaces. In addition, each design is of a nature which could be superimposed on a CD cover or framed as a decorative object. During the execution of the project, the designer strives to avoid the banal or the obvious but concentrates on developing and incorporating elements derived from her own imagination and personal interests.
