This stunning New York loft conversion was an award winning project of the New Zealand based practice of Fearon Hay Architects. Located in the Lower Manhattan area of Tribeca, the huge 550 sq.m. space formerly housed a textile warehouse.

So as to retain the original feel of the building and take advantage of the panoramic views, all service areas were centrally based with minimal structural intervention by using the preexisting columns and beams of the space, allowing the maximum of illumination from the multi-paned industrial style glazing which occupied three sides of the space.

The interior design was undertaken by Penny Hay Ltd who created an ambience of urban elegance in the flexible open plan space, defining each specific zone by heavy linen curtains, sliding sections or simply visibly by the strategic positioning of rugs. The spectacular sleeping zone is on a raised platform of reclaimed oak, giving it a regal throne like appeal.

The best of New Zealand and New York artisans were called upon to design bespoke objects for this understated luxurious residence, including the hand blown pendant lights, perfectly in tune with the exposed pipework of the 3.6m high ceiling and the free standing steel framed wash basins in the bathrooms. The loft was furnished in a harmonious mix of designer furniture and individually designed pieces of the finest quality, ensuring that each item co-existed to provide the desired effect of sophistication to this enviable Manhattan loft conversion.
