The interior of this 120 sq.m. terraced house in the town of Poznan in Poland was simply a newly built shell when the architects, Mode:Lina of Poznan began their project. Impressed by the strong concrete structure, they decided on the concept of a rural theme being brought into the urban home. As dividing walls had not been put into place, the whole of the ground level was left open and the different spaces were defined by materials and recognizable objects.

The rural theme was introduced by means of a cowhide rug in the contemporary living space and a country dining table and chairs next to the modern kitchen. The interesting handmade chandelier, a series of light bulbs suspended from a tree branch, holds a personal meaning for the designer. The branch came from a tree where the architect used to spend his summer holidays as a child. A woodland scene is brought into the bedroom by the abstract wooden shapes on the wardrobe wall and a hint of secrecy awaits behind the mirrored door.

These personal touches within the home and a combination of traditional and modern, together with the urban energy of raw concrete within the space, create the home’s own brand of sophistication.
