The School of Arts in Saint Herblain, France was designed by Tetrarc Architects between 2006 and 2010. The 4,457 m2 structure was built at a cost of 8.3million euro.
The glass façade of the building allows views of the interior which contains ticketing booths, a seating area and work areas. The point of interest on this floor is the abstract swirling design of the stairs leading to the upper floors where the main exhibition galleries are located. To the rear of the building, the façade becomes an expanse of red wall.
The exterior of the upper levels are composed of a perforated veneer which encircles the building, allowing daylight to enter the area on all sides. The architects fulfilled the needs of the assignment by creating an efficient design in line with its purpose of the building and following the specifications of the client.
