Living Divani has chosen the best possible business card as the crowning chapter to its first thirty years in design: a brand-new headquarters in the heart of the Brianza district.

This is a building meant to express the company's spirit, philosophy, and approach to design, factors that have made it one of the world's leading names in upholstered furniture.

Lightness, clean-cut forms, and perfect proportions are three key concepts found in both the collections and in the building itself, designed by Piero Lissoni, the company's art director since 1988: a project that reflects the architect's trademark style. The same principles he uses in architecture are applied to the designs, with a continuity expressed through concepts such as attention to detail, elegance, restraint, and the inherent comfort of generous dimensions.

The 1140 mΗ space, laid out over 2 floors, blends seamlessly into the surrounding landscape, with a pivotal role played by light.

"I conceived a building that was intentionally long, low, and wide, with what I see as ideal proportions," said the architect in reference to his design.

The building is a horizontal volume, a box of light, wrapped in a double transparent envelope U–Glass slats with a glass wall behind them - that acts like a musical cadence, giving a rhythm to the sunlight and tracing new relationships between inside and outside, public and private. The structure is made of natural and white galvanized steel that has been left visible. Eco-friendly, photocatalytic paints have been used to minimize pollutants.

The two floors of the building are punctuated by small, artificially created inner courtyards. The interior space is fluid and uninterrupted, creating an almost telescopic effect that allows the gaze to wander unobstructed, with transparent glass walls to modulate the volumes, making the division between different areas seem imperceptible. The offices have been placed on the ground floor, while the neutral, ethereal upper floor serves as a background for the Living Divani collections.

The ceiling is covered by a metal grid that offers a glimpse of the building engineering systems, while giving the effect of an animated, sculptural surface.

Illumination comes from tubular fluorescent lighting – "inspired by Dan Flavin," Lissoni says– that is computer-controlled, as are the temperature and the shading panels.

Living Divani is a leading manufacturer of upholstered furniture, with a top-quality product range in constant evolution. Its line is firmly rooted in a prestigious tradition of excellence, inspired by key concepts such as fine design, technological innovation, and industrialized production processes, though also infused with a more craftsmanlike attention to detail.
