The Private Rocker, a contemporary design for an office chair, was created  by Kyle Fleet, a young student at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. The winning design manufactured by Herman Miller, was part of a design project entitled, ‘Rest and Concentration in the Workspace.’

Fleet conducted research into what made office workers more productive in an open-plan office environment. The results were, that having access to a private space resulted in a higher rate of productivity. The chair serves a double purpose, that of privacy in order to work without distractions and a place in which to take an uninterrupted break.
