Located on a steep slope in the tourist resort of Sesto/Sexten in NE Italy, the structure of 1050 sq.m. is the design of Plasma Studio. The inspiration for the building which houses six holiday apartments was the local rural architecture and the surrounding landscape, a region of striking natural beauty with mountains and forests.

The backward sloping facade of the structure follows the natural inclination of the site which allows privacy on each balcony, covered outdoor spaces faced with pre-oxidized copper and local larch wood. The wooden surfaces are also a feature of the interior as used for floor and wall coverings.

The volume of the building is broken into two sections addition an interesting note of irregularity and allows for the incorporation of a central tunnel leading to the underground parking area. An asymmetrical  ‘slightly deformed’ sloping roof follows the lines of the mountain slope and the neighboring homes as the architects attempt to ‘explore the new potentials of a traditional typology.’ A modern building project which respects the architectural heritage of this popular region and blends effortlessly into its traditional surroundings.
