The Tana Kmenta Hair Studio is located in a 1920s building in the town of  Brno in the Czech Republic. Part of the building, which once housed a bank, had been converted into a fashion showroom by Studio Muon in 2008 and the same design practice were assigned the project of redesigning an adjoining space for the Hair Studio.

The concept of the design was to highlight the dynamics of the powerful structural shape of the reinforced concrete shell of the interior. Not only did the weathered concrete became the basis for the design aesthetic but was supplemented by additional concrete blocks and huge wooden beams as part of the furnishings of the space. The exposed ceiling complete with suspended pipes and wiring suggests a warehouse vibe above the smart raised podium of the stylists and the highly polished floors and glossy stainless steel surfaces of the work stations.

An urban design of harmonious contrasts of industrial chic within the fabric of a high end hair salon, when taken to its extreme.
