The Australian skincare brand of Aesop has gone from strength to strength after its inception in 1987, there are currently over sixty stores located in cities throughout the world. Their most recent signature store has recently opened in East Hampton, New York, it was designed by the innovative New York based practice of NADAAA.

There is more than a touch of old world charm within the contemporary interior of the store. A minimal design concept, allowing emphasis to be placed on the product by a unique display unit comprised of digitally fabricated pegboard mounted on the walls. The pegboard panels along with dowels support shelves of various sizes, may be placed in a number of configurations according to the needs of the products. The wall spaces above and below the pegboard is painted in a retro shade of pale blue, introducing colour to the space.

A centrally positioned sink is made of Vermont soapstone, a material more commonly found in a domestic environment. The sink unit is completed by copper piping together with a garden type tap. The functionality and aesthetics of the space pay homage to the artistic community of the area and its maritime heritage.

Each Aesop retail store has its own individual character and identity, this ensures that the brand avoids the mass produced look of other similar brands, as founder Dennis Paphitis would never allow his brand to become a ‘soulless chain’.
